Perhaps I’m just old, but I’m getting the idea that manners are a forgotten art.
The words “thank you” just seems as if it is a swear word in modern society.
I’m sure I can’t be the only one who mumbles under their breath or even says out load at times “you’re welcome”, when I hold a door open for people, and they totally ignore me as if I owe it to them, or even waiting to let someone cut across in front of me. I know it probably sounds petty but it’s so soul destroying to see how ignorant and rude people have become.
Ironically I held a door open for a young lad and his mother recently, and I was really pleased that the young lad probably young teens, acknowledged me and said thank you, imagine my dismay when his mother admonished him for speaking to a stranger! What made it worse was hearing him trying to explain to her he was just being polite. Don’t get me wrong, I understand her philosophy in regards to talking to strangers, but just being polite is surely acceptable, even in todays society.
Any anecdotes regarding this subject would be greatly appreciated!
I know it’s a short post, but this really does get under my skin!!!!
